From Buyende to God’s Village: The Quiet Faithfulness of Julius Mwase
At God’s Village, some of the most meaningful acts of service happen far away from a microphone, a camera, or a crowd.
They happen early in the morning when animals need to be cared for.
They happen in the gardens when the soil needs tending.
They happen beneath the Ugandan sun when there is work to be done and someone simply chooses to show up.
This month, Vangrace Compassion Ministries is grateful to recognize Julius Mwase as our Volunteer of the Month—a man whose years of quiet and faithful service continue to make a difference in the everyday life of God’s Village.
A Journey That Began Far From God’s Village
Julius came to us from Himula Kasita Village in Buyende District in Eastern Uganda.
His journey brought him from the familiar surroundings of his home community to God’s Village in Central Uganda, where he became part of a much larger mission: helping us create an environment where children can be nurtured, educated, discipled, cared for and given opportunities to grow toward a brighter future.
Over the years, Julius has served in many practical ways.
Much of his work has been connected to our gardens and the land around God’s Village. He has helped with cultivating crops and carrying out the demanding physical work involved in growing food.
But as God’s Village has continued to develop, so has Julius’s service.
From the Gardens to Caring for Our Animals
Today, you will not only find Julius working around the gardens.
You may also find him caring for our cows and goats, helping with the everyday responsibilities involved in keeping our animals looked after.
It may seem like ordinary work.
But at God’s Village, we have learned that the ordinary things are often what make extraordinary ministry possible.
A child needs a classroom, but someone must also care for the environment surrounding that classroom.
Children need meals, and someone must help cultivate the land that can contribute toward food for the future.
Animals need daily attention, gardens need tending, and the many practical responsibilities of a growing ministry do not simply take care of themselves.
Someone has to be willing to serve.
And Julius has continued to be one of those people.
Service Does Not Always Stand on a Stage
There is something about Julius’s story that reflects an important truth about ministry.
Not everyone who serves God will stand behind a pulpit.
Some will teach children.
Some will prepare meals.
Some will care for the sick.
Some will clean.
Some will cultivate the soil.
Some will feed animals.
And some will quietly do whatever needs to be done, day after day, without expecting recognition.
All of it matters.
At Vangrace Compassion Ministries, our mission is expressed in three simple words:
RESCUE • NURTURE • RAISE
Those words are not accomplished by one person. They become a reality through a community of people willing to use their hands, abilities, time and hearts to serve.
Julius is one of those people.
Sowing Today, Believing for Tomorrow
Our gardens and animals are also part of a bigger vision for God’s Village.
We continue praying and working toward greater sustainability—using the resources God has entrusted to us wisely and developing practical ways that can contribute toward the future needs of the children and families we serve.
We are not yet where we hope to be.
But every seed planted matters.
Every animal cared for matters.
Every hour of faithful work matters.
And every person willing to put their hands to the work moves the vision another step forward.
That is why Julius’s contribution is about much more than gardens, cows or goats.
It is about stewardship.
It is about faithfulness.
And ultimately, it is about serving children through whatever work God places before us.
Thank You, Julius
Julius, today we simply want to say thank you.
Thank you for the years you have given.
Thank you for working when few people are watching.
Thank you for caring for the gardens and animals.
Thank you for being willing to serve in the ordinary responsibilities that help keep God’s Village moving forward.
Our prayer is that God will continue to strengthen you, bless the work of your hands, and give you grace for every new season ahead.
Your service reminds us that changing a child’s life is rarely the work of one person.
It takes a family.
It takes teachers.
It takes caregivers.
It takes friends and partners.
And it takes faithful people like Julius who are willing to serve wherever their hands are needed.
“Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord.” — Colossians 3:23
Today, we celebrate Julius Mwase — our September Volunteer of the Month.
Thank you for being part of the story God continues to write at God’s Village.
