Nabirye Jackline: Behind Every Plate Is a Prayer

Smoke curls gently from the cooking fire. A large pot simmers. And in the midst of it all stands a woman whose love stirs deeper than the porridge she prepares.

This month, we joyfully recognize Nabirye Jackline, a humble yet mighty woman from Bugiri District (approximately 80–90 kilometers from God’s Village), as our Volunteer of the Month for August.

Jackline may not serve from a pulpit or stage. She serves from the hearth—from behind the steam, beneath the shelter, in the early morning hours when others are still waking. Yet, what she gives is just as sacred.

💛 A Calling Cooked Over Fire and Faith

Jackline's ministry begins with firewood and water. She wakes before the children. She lights the flames. She prepares meals for both our children and the volunteers who serve them. But her work is more than cooking—it’s worship.

She is the woman in the yellow beanie, seen smiling and focused in the photos above. What looks like simple porridge is, in truth, a bowlful of prayer. Every stir is layered with care. Every cup poured is filled with dignity.

The work is hot. The hours long. Yet her heart remains warm.

🍴 More Than Food—It’s a Ministry of Presence

Jackline doesn’t just feed hungry stomachs. She nourishes hearts.

She notices the shy child who lingers last in line. She gives a little extra to the growing boy who just played netball. She prepares every meal knowing that sometimes, love is most deeply felt not in words, but in what’s served—faithfully, quietly, every single day.

From the smoky corners of our outdoor kitchen, Jackline shows us what true ministry looks like: sleeves rolled up, joy overflowing, and prayers whispered through rising steam.

🔥 When Days Stretch Thin, Grace Still Flows

There are days when food is scarce. Days when the firewood is wet. Days when pots are few and children are many. But even in those moments, Jackline stands strong. Smiling. Stirring. Believing.

Because she knows—this is holy work. And she is part of something eternal.

🙌 Honoring the Hands That Serve in Secret

As we close the month of August, we pause to celebrate Nabirye Jackline—not just for what she does, but for who she is.

She reminds us all that ministry isn’t always loud.
Sometimes, it’s a hot meal.
A plastic cup filled.
A quiet prayer said before dawn.

We are deeply grateful for her unwavering heart, her joyful spirit, and her commitment to serve the children and volunteers of God's Village.
